Abbey Farms is more than just your average farm. If you get to explore the place, you will realize that there is so much more to this family-friendly location. So, whether you plan to visit as an adventurous couple or an eager family, there are tons of fun available for everyone.

Abbey Farms is located in an outer suburb of Chicago called Aurora, which is one of the most populous parts of the city. The drive here from downtown Chicago is about 45 minutes long. So, it does require a bit of time to get there, but it is very easy to travel to this location through main roads.

Abbey Farms has been around since 1949, which is quite a long time ago. What makes Abbey Farms unique is that it is a non-profit farm with all proceeds going straight to the monks of Marmion Abbey. In fact, this is the underlying purpose of the farm, to support the Marmion Abbey monks in their Christian mission. The Marmion Abbey monks are a group of Catholic men or pastors that serve the local community, such as running the nearby boys college, Marmion Academy.

Originally, Abbey Farms started out with just one thing that you could do there. During winter, it was the only place where locals could cut down their own Christmas trees to take home. Now, more activities are available for the whole family and even couples to enjoy. Before the recent change, for example, Abbey Farms hosted wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions, making it one of the popular wedding venues in Illinois.

An Abbey Farms wedding was sought after by many couples who wanted to have a rustic-chic wedding or a typical barn wedding. Because many young couples would have their wedding here, this reception venue was well known by local wedding photographers, such as Eivan’s wedding photography company. After all, having a farm wedding is both exciting and unique, so it presented many amazing photoshoot ideas.

At Abbey Farms, having your big day here wasn’t the only thing that you could do to have a perfect day. Besides the event spaces available for hire for a wedding party and the Christmas tree-cutting season, there is also what’s called a Pumpkin Daze. The Pumpkin Daze is between the months of September and November or during the fall. At the Pumpkin Daze, there are plenty of things that you can do, especially for children. Some fun activities are zip lines, petting zoos, different kinds of mazes to traverse, and a jumping pillow for entertainment, just to name a few.

Another thing that you could do at Abbey Farms, maybe more for the parents, is to visit the Farmers Market, which has plenty of fresh produce like vegetables and fruits that you can stock up on. The Farmers Market is open from the months of July through to September. If you did enjoy the food from Abbey Farms and wanted more but couldn’t afford the trip there, then they also have an online store. These purchased items can then be available for curbside pickup or be delivered straight to your door.

Today, there are three festive events that happen at Abbey Farms. You can enjoy the many varieties of fresh foods at the Farmers Market in the warm summer season. You can take a vacation and have a family trip to the Pumpkin Maze during the fall. Or, you could go on a romantic winter date with your partner to chop down your very own Christmas tree at the Winter Cheer & Christmas Joy event. The great thing about Abbey Farms is that if you chose one, you could always come back next year to try something new.

Although Abbey Farms no longer host wedding days, you can still have a special day at one of Chicago’s largest farmlands. Because there are so many beautiful spots here, you are still allowed to have a photoshoot to add to your wedding album.
