About Chicago Botanic Gardens

Chicago Botanic Garden is a stunning natural place with a century-long heritage. It was founded by the Chicago Horticultural Society at the end of the 19th century. However, the botanic garden is open for the public during the last 50 years.

It is located in Glencoe, on Chicago’s North Shore, less than 20 miles from the city of Chicago.

Inside you will find 27 gardens and four natural parks. And from there, thousands of photo ideas and backdrops for mesmerizing engagement pictures.

Photo Session at Chicago Botanic Gardens

There is hardly any more charming place for a photo session than the Chicago Botanic Garden. You will understand that as soon as you meet your engagement photographer. They have seen thousands of idyllic and fine art backdrops, yet this one is different from the rest. And you definitely can’t recreate something that nature has been building for years.

However, since this is a delicate setting, you will need to take care of regulations.

Guidelines and regulations

It may seem like an amazing idea, but drone photography is not allowed in the Garden.

Alcoholic beverages are not allowed to be brought. No photo with champagne this time.

Props, luggage, and clothing changes are not allowed. Dress nicely for your session, but don’t forget about the comfort as well. Comfy clothes could only wait for you in the car.

Chicago Botanic Garden is a public place and sometimes can get crowded. Don’t get discouraged, or expect to be alone. You’ll end up with amazing photos in the end anyways.

Bridal and Baby Shower

The plated luncheon menu for this event allows you to choose one starter with freshly sliced rustic bread with herbed butter, an entrée selection with starch and vegetable, and a dessert of your choice. Some refreshments are also included, such as ice water, basil lemonade, and regular coffee with cream & sugar available at each guest table.

Organize an engagement shoot inside of botanical gardens and you’ll be left with more than a photo memory. Let’s see what Chicago Botanic Garden has to offer, in addition to unique photography backdrops.

Garden walks

Whether you like it or not, when in the botanic garden, you’re going to walk a couple of miles. There are 5 pre-designed walking routes, with the length of up to 2 miles each. Combine them for an all-around botanic garden experience and ultimate pleasure for body and soul.

Additionally, seasonal walks are organized to emphasize the beauty of particular natural areas. Regardless of the time of visiting, you’re going to enjoy what nature has to offer at that time. And every time you pass by, you might get amazed by completely different views.

Tram tours

If you are short on time or sore from yesterday’s challenging weight training, then a tram tour might be just for you. For the price of 8 dollars for adults, the tram will take you on a 30-minute highlights tour. You will see the arboretum, McDonald Woods, Elizabeth Hubert Malott Japanese Garden, the Learning Campus, and many more.

Tours are operated daily from April through October so the chances of missing it are low.

Bike cruises

Just in between the tram tours and garden walks, here we have bike cruises. You could ride the North Branch Trail directly to the Garden’s McDonald Woods. If you didn’t come by bike, there is always one for rent at the location. Bikes for rent are available from 8 a.m. for $2.50 per half hour ride.

Unfortunately, rollerblades or skateboards are not allowed inside the Garden.

Birding

Plants are for sure a primary attraction in Chicago Botanic Garden, yet that’s not all. Here you can find a wide variety of different bird species. This one, however, is a bit more difficult to organize before or after the engagement shooting. To get the best out of the experience, you will need good binoculars, comfortable walking shoes and clothes, and a field guide. Luckily, you can get a Discovery Backpack at the location, containing two binoculars and a field guide.

Some species are regulars, and others are just visiting. Summer is a good time to explore them, since they are less active, and easier to notice and study. Spring and fall are interesting as well but way more challenging. During that time, birds are moving around and it’s hard to keep up with them, so it might get confusing. Some species you can find during the whole year are black-capped chickadee, American goldfinches, and blue jay.
